Why Ingredient Transparency Matters in Daily Nutrition

Ingredient transparency means being able to understand what a product contains, how much to use and whether it suits you. A long ingredient list is only the beginning. The amounts, directions and supporting information make it useful.

When two products look similar, these details can change the decision. Use the following checks before choosing a daily supplement.

1. Read the serving information first

Pack weight, serving weight and protein content describe different things. A pouch size does not tell you its protein per serving, and a scoop is not a protein measurement.

Check the current directions for the exact flavour. Where both per-serving and per-100-g figures are provided, compare like with like. Our guide to choosing a protein powder includes a worked example.

2. Look beyond the ingredient names

The Food Standards Agency’s supplement guidance covers ingredients, emphasised allergens, recommended daily dosage, relevant substance quantities, storage and other required label information.1

For a purchasing decision, ask which quantities are actually disclosed. A combined blend weight cannot tell you the amount of each component. If an ingredient is central to your choice and the information is unclear, request clarification.

Do not assume that a named ingredient appears in the same form or amount used in a research paper. Equally, do not assume a longer formulation is automatically better. The useful question is whether you can assess the product you are buying.

3. Separate allergens from dietary preferences

Review both the ingredient list and precautionary allergen statements. Milk allergy, lactose intolerance and a preference to avoid animal ingredients are different considerations.

For example, the current BioBoost Vanilla information identifies milk and bovine collagen.2 Our whey-versus-collagen guide explains why those protein ingredients are not interchangeable.

4. Ask what “tested” or “certified” means

Useful documentation identifies what was examined and the product, ingredient or batch it relates to. Ask about the scope of a certificate of analysis rather than treating the word “tested” as a complete explanation.

Our Quality & Standards page distinguishes facility certification from product certification and describes documentation that may be available to approved professional partners.3 It should not be read as evidence that BioBoost has demonstrated clinical benefits.

5. Make a decision you can explain

Before purchasing, you should be able to say what the product is, how you would prepare it, which ingredients matter to you and why it fits your routine. If those answers are missing, ask before ordering.

BioBoost Balance+ Protein™: Vanilla is our daily nutrition protein. Its current product page is the starting point for reviewing ingredients, directions and suitability.2 The wider approach is The Swedish Daily Nutrition™ Routine.

Contains milk. Not suitable for people with a milk allergy. Contains bovine collagen; unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for children under 16. Check the current label for all ingredients, precautionary allergens and directions before use.

Food supplements should complement a varied, balanced diet and healthy lifestyle and should not be used as a substitute for either.

For retailers, clinics and distributors

Request the current label, market-specific suitability information and relevant quality documentation before making a stocking decision. Check that the records identify the same product and formulation you intend to offer. Use the professional enquiry details on our quality page to request the appropriate information.
