Protein Shake Recipes and Easy Breakfast Pairings

Illustration: Seven protein shake and breakfast pairing ideas in a Nordic home kitchen.

Four simple shakes and three small breakfast pairings, all made with BioBoost Balance+ Protein™ Vanilla. Choose the combination that fits your morning.

A shake does not automatically make a complete meal; our guide to protein shakes and meal replacements explains the difference.

Commercial disclosure: Amaris Mint® sells BioBoost Balance+ Protein™, used in all seven recipes.

Choose your recipe

  1. Simple vanilla protein shake
  2. Cocoa and vanilla shake
  3. Cinnamon and oat shake
  4. Peanut and vanilla shake
  5. BioBoost shake with blueberry and skyr
  6. BioBoost shake with banana and Greek yoghurt
  7. BioBoost shake with mango and silken tofu

One base for all seven ideas

Each idea uses one serving of BioBoost Balance+ Protein™ Vanilla and cold semi-skimmed milk, except the mango pairing, which uses water. Measure both powder and liquid according to your current pack. Do not exceed the recommended daily amount.1

Basic shake: pour the liquid into a clean shaker, add the powder, secure the lid and shake until mixed. Serve freshly prepared. For the three breakfast pairings, keep the bowl separate from the drink.

For people aged 16 and over. All seven ideas contain milk and bovine collagen and are not vegetarian or vegan. Check suitability before use.

1. Simple vanilla protein shake

Preparation notes

Finished nutrition values have not been calculated. Follow the written ingredient quantities, as pictured portions, colour and texture may vary.

Equipment: use a shaker for the basic drink, a shaker or blender for cocoa, and a blender for oats or peanut butter. Follow the appliance’s loading and fill instructions.

Use cold ingredients for these recipes. Do not put hot liquids into a sealed blending cup. Switch off and unplug the blender before opening it to scrape the sides, and wait for the blades to stop.3, 4

Suitability

All seven ideas contain milk and bovine collagen and are not vegetarian or vegan. BioBoost may contain traces of gluten, egg, soya and shellfish/crustaceans. BioBoost is for people aged 16 and over and is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone allergic to its ingredients. Check the complete pack information before use.1

How to adjust the texture

Too thick? For the blended shake ideas, stay within the pack’s liquid preparation instructions. If the texture does not suit you, return to the simple shake rather than changing the powder serving.

Lumpy? Put the liquid in first and add powder gradually. Use a blender for oats and nut butter; a shaker is best kept for ingredients that disperse readily. Follow your blender’s minimum fill guidance.

Too sweet? Use an unsweetened liquid and leave out honey, syrups or other sweet additions. Taste before changing the recipe. A flavoured powder may already provide all the sweetness you want.

Water, milk or a plant drink?

The liquid changes the taste, texture and nutritional contribution. Check its label as well as the powder’s label. If you replace milk with a plant drink, check both protein and any added nutrients; the products are not all equivalent.

Read our water or milk comparison before choosing your usual base. Using a plant drink with whey powder does not make the shake dairy-free.

Prepare safely and keep it cold

Start with clean hands, a clean blender or shaker and ingredients within their use-by dates. Wash fresh fruit before preparing it. If you use frozen fruit instead, follow the pack’s preparation instructions, including any requirement to cook it first. Cool any cooked fruit safely before serving it in the accompanying bowls.

Prepare only what you plan to use and drink freshly made shakes promptly. Keep perishable ingredients and any prepared drink refrigerated at 0 to 5°C, following the shortest storage instruction among the ingredients. The Food Standards Agency recommends keeping chilled food out of the fridge for as little time as possible.2

For a journey, carrying the dry powder separately and mixing it when you are ready can be simpler than transporting a prepared shake. Keep milk chilled. Our protein powder and prepared shake storage guide covers the practical details.

Choose your first BioBoost preparation

To compare flavours, review Vanilla, Cinnamon and Chai. Check each product’s own ingredients, directions and suitability before choosing. The preparation ideas in this guide use Vanilla unless stated otherwise.

Start with a familiar flavour and make it part of your breakfast routine.

The Vanilla formula combines whey protein with 30+ carefully selected ingredients, including collagen, vitamins, minerals, botanicals, fibres, cultures and enzymes. It is clinician-formulated and made in Sweden in an FSSC 22000-certified facility.1
